Shoppable Video

Applies to: Advertisers

Shoppable video puts clickable hotspots and product cards on top of your video ad, at the moments you choose. A viewer who likes the jacket in second 6 taps the card and lands on that jacket's page; the click counts as a click on your ad.

What this is#

Each video ad can carry up to 8 overlays. An overlay is shown from one second of the video until another, in a corner (or bottom centre) of the player:

  • a hotspot is a short text button, for example Shop the look or Book now;
  • a product card shows a product image, its name, its price and a button.

Each overlay can have its own link. Without one, it opens your ad's destination URL. Clicking pauses the video; it plays on when the viewer comes back to the tab.

Overlays show in our own video players (in-stream, slider, in-page, reels and the video carousel) and, for video players on other sites that support the SIMID standard, through the ad's VAST.

When you'll use this#

  • Your video shows products and you want people to buy the one they just saw.
  • One video advertises several offers and each needs its own landing page.

Step by step#

  1. Open a RON video campaign and add or edit a video ad.
  2. Under Shoppable video: overlays, click + Hotspot or + Product card.
  3. Set From and Until (seconds into the video) and the Position.
  4. For a hotspot, type the Text. For a product card, fill in Product, Price and Image URL, or click Fill from a product feed and pick a product from one of your feeds (see Product Feeds).
  5. Optionally give the overlay its own Link, then save the ad.

Results#

When you edit the ad later, each overlay shows how often it was shown and clicked in the last 30 days, and its click-through rate. The clicks are also part of the ad's normal statistics.

Tips#

  • Keep overlays short (3 to 8 seconds) and away from the moment the video shows its own text.
  • Do not stack two overlays in the same corner at the same time.
  • Product cards pull the image from its URL when the ad plays; use an image that stays online.
