In-page video, video slider and video carousel ad zones

Applies to: Publishers

What this is#

Three ad zone types that play video ads on pages without a video player of your own. The ad controller script draws the player for you:

  • In-page video: a video ad inside your article or page layout, in a box you place.
  • Video slider: a small video that slides into a corner (or edge) of the page and stays there while the visitor scrolls.
  • Video carousel: several video ads in one box, playing one after another, with a countdown ring per slide.

Which formats you can create depends on your network: it decides which ad zone types are switched on, and some types also need a permission on your account.

When to use it#

  • You publish articles, galleries or listings and want video income without hosting video.
  • In-page video fits inside content; Video slider is visible on every scroll position; Video carousel fills one box with more ads per visit.
  • If you do run your own player, use a Video zone instead.

Settings#

In-page video (In-Page Video Settings):

Setting What it does Default
Capping How often the same visitor may get an ad from this zone. No capping
Pass on external click ID Adds the network click ID macro you enter (e.g. {ACLID}) to the click-through, for networks that send you traffic. Off

The player itself is set in the code (see below): skip button, countdown, sound, autoplay and looping are parameters of the tag.

Video slider (Video Slider Settings):

Setting What it does Default
Position Where it appears and how it slides in, e.g. Right — slide in from bottom, Left — slide in from left, Top center — slide in from top, Right corner — static. Right — slide in from bottom
Bottom offset (px) Lifts the slider above the bottom of the screen, e.g. above your own sticky bar. 0
Max viewport height (% of visible page) The largest share of the screen it may cover, separately for Desktop landscape, Desktop portrait, Mobile landscape and Mobile portrait. 30% each
Capping How often the same visitor gets it. No capping
Use carousel mode Cycles several matching videos through the slider instead of one. Off
Loop short videos (under 30s) Replays short clips for the full display time. Not available in carousel mode. Off
Show close button Shows a close button; Countdown before close is allowed (s) delays it and Show the countdown to the visitor shows the timer. On, 5 s, shown
Popunder when close is pressed Opens one of your pop zones when the visitor closes the slider. Only listed when you have pop zones. None
After the visitor closes the slider Whether it comes back: from Play the next ad after a delay (with Seconds before the next ad and Total pageviews) to Stop showing ads for the rest of the session. Shown when your network offers closing options. Network default
Use fat-finger close behavior Treats a click anywhere on the slider as an ad click, for all browsers or all except Chrome, during the times you pick. Shown when your network offers it. Off
Country filter None, As Whitelist or As Blacklist plus the countries. None
Pass on external click ID As above. Off

Your own scripts can recognise the slider's close button by its data-ad-close attribute, so a popunder of yours doesn't fire when the visitor closes the slider.

Video carousel has no settings of its own beyond the general zone settings; everything is in the code.

Getting the code#

On the Ad Zone Code tab you get the Controller loader tag (once per page, best in your site's shared header) and the zone's own code:

  • In-page video and Video carousel: a <div> placed where the video should go, plus a script. The width and height on the div are a maximum; change them with your own CSS and the video scales along. The box stays hidden until an ad is ready, so no empty gap appears.
  • In-page video tag parameters: skip_btn, skip_after_sec (5), show_countdown, skip_position (top_right or bottom_right), auto_hide (hides the player when the ad ends; looping is then off), controls, muted, autoplay, loop.
  • Video slider: a single script line; the slider positions itself.

The examples per format are in Ad Controller. The Video carousel's extra URL box (labelled VAST URL) is a hosted HTML page you can load in an iframe; it isn't a VAST tag for a player.

Selling it#

In-page video and Video slider zones can be filled by RON campaigns, CPM campaigns and flat-rate deals; Video carousel zones by RON campaigns and flat-rate deals, as your network allows.

Tips#

  • Keep in-page video muted with autoplay: browsers block autoplay with sound.
  • On mobile, a lower Max viewport height keeps the slider from covering your content.

Troubleshooting#

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Nothing appears No campaign targets the visitor, or the loader tag is missing. Check that the Controller loader tag is on the page; use Preview.
Slider covers the page's own sticky bar No offset. Set Bottom offset (px).
Short clip ends early in the slider Looping is off or carousel mode is on. Tick Loop short videos (under 30s) (not in carousel mode).
Video carousel URL doesn't play in my player That URL is an HTML page, not a VAST tag. Use the script code, or load the URL in an iframe.
