Dynamic iframe ad zones

Applies to: Publishers

A dynamic iframe zone serves the ad inside its own iframe that you size yourself — a fixed width and height, or responsive so it follows your layout. In the zone editor its settings card is called Responsive Banner Settings.

Your network decides which ad zone types it offers. If Dynamic Iframes isn't in the type list when you create a zone, it isn't switched on for your network.

What this is#

Where a normal banner zone has one fixed banner size, a dynamic iframe zone gives you a frame whose width and height you control. The creative loads inside that frame as its own isolated document, so its styles and scripts can't clash with your page, and your page's styles can't break the ad.

When you'll use this#

  • Your layout is fluid and a fixed banner size doesn't fit every screen.
  • The creatives are full HTML documents that need their own page (scripts, styles).
  • You want an ad slot that resizes with its column on mobile and desktop.

Settings#

Pick Dynamic Iframes when creating the zone; the Responsive Banner Settings card appears:

Setting What it does Default
Responsive Width When ticked, the frame takes the width of its container. Off
Width (px) Fixed width, shown when Responsive Width is off. Required then. —
Responsive Height When ticked, the frame takes the height of its container. Off
Height (px) Fixed height, shown when Responsive Height is off. Required then. —

You can mix them — for example a responsive width with a fixed height. The general zone settings are covered in Ad Zones.

Getting the code#

Save the zone and copy the code from its Ad Zone Code tab. With the Ad Controller it is:

<div id="id_YOUR_ZONE_ID"></div>
<script>goCtrl.add({"plugin":"dyn_banner","sid":YOUR_ZONE_ID,"display":"id_YOUR_ZONE_ID"});</script>

The frame is sized to the container, so give the <div> the dimensions you want in CSS when you use the responsive options. See Getting Your Ad Code and How to make banner ads responsive.

Selling it#

Dynamic iframe zones accept CPM, flat-rate (direct deal) and run-of-network (RON) campaigns.

Tips#

  • For responsive frames, set a size on the container (CSS width and a height or aspect ratio) — a container with no size gives the frame nothing to follow.
  • Use a fixed height with a responsive width for in-article slots; it keeps the page from jumping as the ad loads.
  • If your creatives are plain images, a regular banner zone is simpler.

Troubleshooting#

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Save fails with a width or height error A responsive option is off but the size is empty. Enter the size in px, or tick Responsive Width / Responsive Height.
The frame is 0 pixels high Responsive height with a container that has no height. Give the container a height or switch to a fixed Height.
