Footer code ad zones

Applies to: Publishers

A footer code zone runs an ad code that renders itself — typically another ad network's snippet, such as a slider, pop or notification script — through your own ad zone. It isn't tied to a spot in your layout: the code is injected at the end of your page and runs from there.

Your network decides which ad zone types it offers. If Footer Code isn't in the type list when you create a zone, it isn't switched on for your network.

What this is#

Advertisers on a footer code zone don't upload a picture; they supply a piece of JavaScript or HTML that draws its own ad. The zone delivers that code to your page and executes it. Because it's served through your zone, it is counted, sold and reported like any other placement — instead of being pasted into your template by hand where you can't see what it earns.

When you'll use this#

  • You run other networks' self-rendering formats (sliders, notification widgets) and want them under your own control and statistics.
  • You want to sell a "bring your own code" placement to a direct advertiser.
  • You want to switch such codes on and off without editing your site template.

Settings#

A footer code zone has no type-specific settings in the zone editor — only the general ones (name, website, category, options) covered in Ad Zones.

Getting the code#

Save the zone and copy the code from its Ad Zone Code tab. No container is needed; place the code once per page, ideally near the end of the <body>. With the Ad Controller:

<script>goCtrl.add({"plugin":"footer_code","sid":YOUR_ZONE_ID});</script>

See Getting Your Ad Code.

Selling it#

Footer code zones accept CPM, flat-rate (direct deal) and run-of-network (RON) campaigns, and can be used in Smart Zones — handy for rotating several networks' codes and keeping the best-paying one.

Tips#

  • Use one footer code zone per kind of code, so the statistics show what each earns.
  • Third-party codes run on your page with full access to it. Only accept codes from networks and advertisers you trust, and check your page after a new code goes live.
  • If a code needs a container in your layout, it belongs in a banner or dynamic iframe zone instead.

Troubleshooting#

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Nothing visible happens The third-party code only shows on certain conditions (country, device, frequency) or failed to load. Check the browser console for errors from the third-party script.
Two ads of the same kind appear The same network's code is also hard-coded in your template. Remove the hard-coded copy and serve it only through the zone.
Statistics show impressions but the other network shows fewer Each side counts differently (we count delivery of the code, the network counts its own render). Compare trends rather than exact numbers.
