Connected Apps

Applies to: All users

Some tools — reporting dashboards, automation services, AI assistants — can connect to your account through a sign-in screen instead of an API key you copy by hand. You see exactly what the app asks for, allow it, and can disconnect it again at any time.

What this is#

When an app wants to work with your account, it sends you to a page on this panel titled {app} wants to connect. That page shows:

  • the app's name, who offers it (Offered by the platform operator, or Registered by a named company), and where you will be sent back to;
  • what it asks to act for your account and may do — a list of permissions, such as reading statistics or managing campaigns;
  • whether it can also connect as an AI assistant with the same permissions (every tool it uses is then recorded).

You click Allow or Cancel. After allowing, the app can do only what it was granted, and never more than your own account may do: if your rights shrink later, so does what the app can do.

Every app you allowed is listed under Connected apps, next to your API keys in your account settings, with when it was Last used. Disconnect cuts it off immediately.

When you'll use this#

  • A reporting or BI tool offers "Connect your GoAdserver account".
  • You connect an AI assistant to your account through its own connector.
  • You want to see which outside apps can act for you, and remove one you no longer use.

Step by step#

Connect an app#

  1. Start the connection from the app itself (for example a Connect button in its settings). It sends you to this panel.
  2. If you aren't signed in, sign in to your account.
  3. Read the screen: who offers the app, the list of things it may do, and the address you'll be sent back to.
  4. Click Allow. You are taken back to the app, now connected. Click Cancel to connect nothing.

Disconnect an app#

  1. Open your account settings and go to the API section, where Connected apps lists every app you allowed.
  2. Click Disconnect next to the app and confirm. It loses access immediately. You can connect it again from the app.

When an app can't be connected#

Message Meaning
API access is not enabled for your account, so apps cannot be connected to it. Apps act through the API; switch API access on first (see API Keys) or ask your network.
Your account cannot grant every permission this app asks for The app asks for something your own account may not do.
You are signed in as this account by an administrator. Only the account holder can connect apps — not someone viewing the account.
This app connects to a user account, not the admin panel (or the reverse) Sign in on the right panel for this app.
This app is unknown or has been disabled. / The app asked to send you back to an address it did not register. The request is not valid — contact the app's developer.

Example#

Kim uses an outside reporting tool for her agency. In the tool she clicks Connect GoAdserver, lands on ReportTool wants to connect, sees it may only read statistics, and clicks Allow. Months later she stops using the tool, opens Connected apps, sees it was last used weeks ago, and clicks Disconnect.

Tips#

  • Read the permission list before you allow: a reporting tool should not need to manage campaigns.
  • Disconnect apps you no longer use — the Last used date shows which ones those are.
  • For your own scripts, an API key with limited scopes is usually simpler than an app.
