Exit-intent interstitial

An interstitial that waits until your visitor is about to leave: the mouse heads for the tab bar, or a phone user flicks back up the page. It never interrupts someone who is reading.

This is a live zone on a demo account with 15 made-up advertisers. Try it below, then look at the code: it is the same one line as any interstitial.

DEMO

Exit-intent interstitial

A banner over the page, shown at the moment your visitor is about to go: one last offer instead of a lost visit. It never opens while someone is reading, and never in the first 5 seconds on the page.

Zone #12512567 · interstitial banner · 300×250 · centre · open the ad: exit intent · uncapped for the demo

On a computer

Wait 5 seconds, then move the mouse up and out of the page, towards the tab bar or the back button, as if you were leaving.

On a phone

Scroll down through the article for at least one screen, then flick back up quickly, the way people do before they leave.

Waiting 5 seconds before it can open…

10 quiet beaches in Portugal

The Alentejo coast is the quiet half of Portugal's Atlantic shore. Between Comporta and Odeceixe the beaches are long, the villages small and the summer crowds a fraction of the Algarve's.

Start in Comporta: rice fields run almost to the dunes, and the wooden walkways to the sand are lined with storks' nests in spring. Further south, Melides has a lagoon that opens to the sea in winter and is warm enough for swimming from June.

Getting there

From Lisbon it is an hour and a half by car to Comporta, two and a half to Vila Nova de Milfontes. Buses run daily but rarely; a car makes the coast much easier.

The best months are June and September: the water is warm, the wind calmer and the small guesthouses have rooms. In August book early, especially in Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar.

Where to stay

Most of the coast is protected natural park, so there are no high-rise hotels. Look for converted farmhouses inland and small guesthouses in the villages; many are a short walk or bike ride from the beach.

Odeceixe, at the southern end, sits on a river mouth: swim in the calm river on one side of the sandbar and in the Atlantic on the other.

HOW

How it works

Exit intent is a setting on an interstitial zone, not a separate format: in the zone's Floater Settings set Open the ad to When the visitor is about to leave (exit intent). The zone code stays the same one line.

On a computer it opens when the mouse leaves the page through the top edge. On a phone or tablet it opens on a fast scroll back up after the visitor has read at least one screen. It waits at least 5 seconds after the page loads, opens once per page view, and the zone's Capping limits how often the same visitor sees it.

It works on banner and native interstitial zones, and the zone is sold like any interstitial: CPM, flat-rate deals and run-of-network campaigns. See Interstitial and full page ad zones in the docs.
