Interscroller: revealed as you scroll

A tall banner sits behind a window in the article. Scroll down and the page slides over it: the window opens on the ad, then closes again.

Interscroller in an article

An interscroller is a tall banner shown through a window in your content. The banner stays fixed to the screen while the article scrolls over it, so the window reveals it on the way down and covers it again on the way up. It takes a full screen of attention without covering the page or stopping the reader.

Four slow days in a harbour town

Most people arrive in the old harbour town by the morning ferry, walk the waterfront for an hour and leave on the afternoon boat. That is a mistake. The town only shows itself after the day visitors are gone, when the fishing boats come in and the cafés on the square put their chairs back out.

We stayed four nights in a guesthouse above a bakery, which meant waking up to the smell of bread at five and falling asleep to the bells of the church across the lane. The owner drew us a map on the back of a receipt: three beaches, two viewpoints, one restaurant she said we must not miss.

The first beach is the one everybody finds, ten minutes from the ferry along the coast path. Go early. By eleven the sunbeds are taken and the water is busy with pedal boats. The second needs a forty-minute walk over the headland and is almost always empty, even in August.

The headland path is easy but has no shade, so take water and leave before the heat. Halfway up there is a small chapel with a bench and the best view of the bay; most walkers stop there and turn back, which is exactly why the beach beyond stays quiet.

The third beach is only reachable by boat. A fisherman on the east quay runs a taxi when the sea is calm, and he will tell you when to be back. Bring lunch: there is nothing there but pine trees, a strip of white pebbles and the clearest water we found anywhere on the coast.

Evenings belong to the square. Families walk, children play football against the church wall and the old men argue over cards. Order whatever the waiter recommends; the menu is a formality. Our best dinner was grilled fish, a tomato salad and bread, eaten at a table that wobbled on the cobbles.

The restaurant on the map turned out to be a single room with six tables in a side street behind the market. No sign, no menu, a set dinner of whatever came off the boats that day. Book a day ahead by asking at the bakery; the owner's sister cooks.

If you have a car, drive up to the hill villages for a morning. The road is narrow and the views are worth every hairpin. Stop in the second village for coffee and the almond cakes the café sells by weight, then come back down before the afternoon traffic of tour buses.

SET UP

How to set one up

Create an inline banner zone in a tall size (300 × 600 or 320 × 480), switch on Show as interscroller in the zone settings and copy the zone code again: it now loads the interscroller plugin instead of the plain banner one. Place the code between two paragraphs, not inside a narrow sidebar. In the code, window_height sets the window in % of the screen height (40–100, default 80) and advertise the label above and below it. Any 300 × 600 banner campaign fills it: no special creative needed.

Works on desktop and mobile · counts one impression per load like any banner
